2019 Yarraloch La Cosette Pinot Noir

The Collective Review

A brand new boutique operation based out of the Yarra Valley is here and it's called Yarraloch. As these things go, Sommeliers have picked up on the tail wind and are already serving their wines on some of Melbourne's most in demand wine lists and venues.

This is small scale production and the finished wines that are proving very hard to get your hands on them. Made by Sergio Carlei (Carlei Estate and Green Vineyards) traditional techniques including open wood fermenters, whole berry maceration, and minimal filtration or intervention where possible.

Some refer to him as the European winemaker of Australia.

James Halliday says, "Once again, the golden touch of Carlei comes through in this newly released, beautifully packaged wines."

"This is a richly fruited Pinot Noir from a single vineyard. It’s soft and plush with delicious flavours of cherry and cranberry, adding a nice cut to the palate. Supple with fine tannins and neatly adjusted oak."- Ray Jordon Wine Pilot

Experience what European values on Australia soils taste like with this new guard Victoria Pinot Noir.

A single vineyard Yarra Pinot, which is apparently the winery’s entry level effort, which augurs extremely well for the other wines in the range. This is deep red in colour. There are notes of root vegetables, dry herbs, mulberries, spices, tobacco leaves and red fruits. There also appears to be a flick of oak which helps tie everything together. There is decent length and an appealing, supple, creamy texture. The finish does have a drying grip to it, but it lingers nicely. Good drinking now and over the next three to four years. Read more

It’s a good wine. Savoury-spicy but with a core of sweet fruit. Fresh red cherries into strawberries, woodsy spice, almost a clove-like note, a sour note and a mineral one too. Love the smell of this; it smells really delicious, mostly of ripe berries but with fresh herb and undergrowth-like highlights. Dry/spicy tannin keeps it neat too. Lovely drinking to be had here. Recommended.
