Collection: Mother's Day

The Mother's Day wine collection was created to make buying wine for your mother an easy and stressless experience. We have taken all the wines that are popular among our female shoppers and included them in this selection and added in a few bottles that our experienced team think she should try. It includes wine sourced from many locations all over Australia, and a few notable international wines as well.

If your mother has family from outside of Australia, getting something from that region can bring back feelings of home and it can help build your bond between mother and child. Wines are well established as the drink of choice when marking a special day, and having the right wine for the event can make it so much more memorable.

Champagne and sparkling white wines are often the go-to product when you want to add a little flair to any event. Red wines are perfect for when you are enjoying a meal that has a rich and well-developed sauce. White wines are best when served with light-flavoured meals, especially seafood and shellfish. While pairing a good wine with the right food is an excellent way to get the best out of both products, wine is also simply perfect for just sharing among friends and family as you settle down for a discussion in the evening.

When considering which Mother's Day wine is best for your mother, think about what type of wine she normally drinks. If she regularly drinks red wine, such as Pinot Noir, or Shiraz, but from one particular region (e.g. The Barossa Valley), you can find a bottle of wine that uses the same grapes but from a different region. This will give them the same flavour of wine, but with a few subtle differences as wines actually take on the flavour of the region they were grown; this is known as the wine terroir.

Sticking to a wine that your mother enjoys, but seeking something that will offer her a new experience shows that you’ve noticed what she enjoys but also you’re showcasing a new and interesting wine. If your mother is a wine drinker, you can easily bond over sharing a bottle of wine from a winery that is new for both of you. This can give you something to talk about for many years, especially if you share the same opinion of that particular wine. Often the best experiences we get with our parents are built on mutual feelings, and nothing is more intimate than sitting down and enjoying a great bottle of wine.

If you’re not sure about what wine is best from our Mother's Day wine collection, then try to think about other things that your mother likes, and try to match her personality. Is she outgoing and enjoys being around friends and family? Then choosing a good sparkling wine can help her be the life of the party! If she prefers a quiet night in front of a warm fire with a good book, then go for a deep red wine such as a Shiraz, or a Cabernet Sauvignon. If she enjoys desserts or other sweet treats, then picking up a good quality dessert wine, such as a Moscato, will be simply perfect. In our Mother's Day wine selection, we have added wines that are suitable for all types of wine drinkers, and you can find something that suits the novice all the way to experienced wine connoisseurs.

As we offer Afterpay alcohol, you have the chance to buy a special bottle for your Mother, and you can break up the costs of the wine over a few weeks. We also ship to most locations all over Australia, so if your mother lives in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, AdelaidePerth, or any other city within those states we’ve got you covered. If you can’t find the exact wine you’re after in our collection, you can look through the Father's Day wine, to see if there is something in those that are more to your mother’s tastes.

Buying wine early for any event is the best way to make sure you’re ready on that particular date. However, to keep the wine in excellent condition it needs to be stored properly. While cellaring is the absolute best method for keeping wine, it is usually out of the hands of most Australian residents. If you’re fortunate enough to have a wine cellar then that’s great! But for most of us, the best way to keep your wine is by storing it in a cool and dark location, luckily the lower shelves of the kitchen pantry are often the best place as it mimics most standard wine cellars. If you’ve already opened your Mother's Day wine, and need to keep it for a few days, then replacing the cork and putting it in the fridge will normally keep it fresh for a few days (white wine 2-3 days, and red wine 3-5 days).

At The Wine Collective, you’ll find many wines that are suitable as a Mother's Day wine gift. Wine can be a very personal thing and people generally have strong views on what they like and what they don't, but it is a highly acceptable gift for most people, especially if you’ve been invited over for dinner. Even if you can be there with your mother to celebrate this special day, by ordering wine online and having it shipped to her, she can take it and invite a few friends over to share in the special bottle you’ve bought for her!
