2022 Teusner Joshua GMS

I remember loving these wines when they first hit the scene, becoming disgruntled with them around a decade later. The structural elements seemed to have become too hard; too forced. Not any longer. This recent suite is delicious. Poised, pulpy, aromatic, juicy, dutifully savory and bound to nicely wrought tannins. Here, case in point. A bit reductive before lilac, poached red cherries, raspberry bon bon, eucalyptus and briar shimmy long, compressed and corralled by a fine bone of chalky tannin. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Read more

Grenache, mataro and shiraz generally made in a fresh, earthen style. Earth, yes, but there’s a fruit sweetness too. Raspberries and blackberries with licorice and sweet spice, inlaid with florals, rust and fresh/sweet earth. This is clean as a whistle, joyous and generous. It rollicks along. It’s not overdone but it has good depth; it’s balanced. Everything here feels right. Tannin too is particularly well managed, in a non-assertive way.

Tasting Notes
Teusner wines very first wine style, and like Mick Page's first son, we called it/ him Joshua/ As Kym says: A mix of light and dark fresh ripe berried fruits, cured meats and lifted spice on the nose sets you up for mouthful of savoury and gamey flavour in the mouth. We keep our Josh away from oak and release it young to showcase the kind of juicy, spicy, flavorsome Barossa reds that we like to knock back over lunch.
