Montepulicano under the kind hands of Bryan Martin and family. It’s got cherry and cola, liquorice and minty herbs. It seems fragrant and sweet-hearted but finds a good tug of tannin and bright acidity for freshness too. It’s a wine that had me in mind of pizza instantly but also a gluggable, fun, good times red of depth, some richness, lift, easy appeal. Winemakers Note
Loving working with this variety, seems to be a good one for our ever changing climate. Being a late ripener its good for hot years, extending the season and having super thick skins and high acid make it a growers dream for these wet years.
I’m in, we give the grapes a month on skins to yield their goodness and then pack the wine into puncheons for about 14 months. Blended and like all our wine, bottled without messing around with fining and filtration.
