The Collective Review

What's that? A grape named after a Lannister? Surely not...

While Tyrion might be familiar to those with a penchant for Game of Thrones, the seldom-seen Tyrian is more likely to be found north of the wall, such is its rarity and lack of use in the modern Australian winemaking scene.

It's a hybrid of Cabernet, developed here in Australia to adapt to the challenging weather and conditions. It's rich in red currant and fragrant berry fruits, with a hint of pepper spice and oriental notes. Expect mouth-coating tannins and excellent aging potential. Peter Drayton has been one of the leading champions of this grape, and this Wildstreak bottling is as good as we've ever seen it. Luscious, with a depth of colour and berry tone that isn't usually found in the Hunter Valley. For traditionalists, think of it as a rich Coonawarra Cabernet in disguise. And for everyone else who loves to live outside the box, give it a try. It's a ripper find, especially for the money.
