Penfolds Max's Shiraz 2021

The soft and fresh palate showcases the bright red fruit characters of South Australian Shiraz. Fresh plums, ripe cherries and hints of pomegranate. There is a creamy richness to the palate with textural soft tannins providing a supportive frame for this generous wine.

Winter rainfall was near long-term average, although July was unusually dry. Spring temperatures were generally warmer than average with excellent climactic conditions for budburst and flowering. Summer was cooler than average with no extended heat spells. Summer rainfall was 20% above the long-term average. The generally mild conditions made for an excellent harvest, with shiraz grapes exhibiting textbook varietal character.
Our Max’s tier was introduced in 2016 and pays tribute to our first Chief Winemaker Max Schubert, who dared to revolutionise Australian winemaking. Each wine is polished and charming in character, expressing varietal cues, alluring fruit and structure. They are contemporary and vibrant upon release. They are immediately accessible but not without the assurance of more to come.
