Clare Valley

2022 Atlas Rose

12 x 750ml
Produced from 80-year-old bush vines from Leasingham. The variety is grenache. That's two good sentences to read. It's tightly wound and racy, crisp and very dry. Gently savoury with faint nutty and woody spice elements but it's mostly about crunchy cranberry and watermelon granite-like fruit characters. Whips along at pace, feeling thirst-quenching and delicate. Appropriately understated and very good. Read more

Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

Hand-picked from 80 year old Grenache bush vines at Leasingham in the Clare Valley. Gets 5% new oak, the rest older oak (they say neutral, but there’s no such thing as neutral oak, if there was no impact on flavour/texture, then there would be no point using it…) Red fruit, spice, a little wood, subtle flowering basil and dried herb. It’s a wine of texture, with some dry grainy grip, raspberry, strawberry and watermelon sorbet, with a pleasing juiciness, but also some nutty saline complexity. It’s just a little bit peanut shell/earthy too. The finish has a bright tang and good length. Good. Distinctive.

Tasting Notes

This pale watermelon-pink rose is delicate and fragrant, with expressive aromas of strawberries, rose petals and hints of vanilla and musk. The palate is refreshingly dry with flavours of ripe melon and berry fruit supported by crisp acidity and a textural creaminess from lees stirring and time in oak.

Winemakers Note

WINEMAKING
Grapes were hand picked and briefly held on skins before gentle pressing into barrel. The pale pink juice was fermented wild in 5% new French oak and balance neutral French Oak, where it was matured and lees stirred for 3 months to add layers of texture and depth to the vibrant “nearly ripe” strawberry fruit. The result is a somewhat complex wine that is aromatic, textural and interesting.
