The Collective Review
Despite its exceptional quality, Clare Shiraz often goes under appreciated, overshadowed by the bolder Barossa and McLaren Vale varieties. However, this region is capable of producing truly exceptional Shiraz that should have a place in every wine cellar.
The featured wine comes from vines that were planted between 25 to 50 years ago and offers incredible value. Its lovely magenta/crimson colour and enticing aromas of dried fruit, chocolate, warm earth, spices, cloves, raspberries, black olives, and blackcurrants make it irresistible. On the palate, the flavours explode with a serious length and fine, satiny tannins. It's delicious and can be enjoyed now, but it also has the potential to age beautifully. There's so much to love about this criminally undervalued wine.
Richly fruited and enticing, the wine shows blackberry, vanillin oak, warm spice and rich floral aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with plush texture backed by layers of silky tannins, finishing long and velvety. Gorgeously composed and expressed with opulence as well as delightful complexity. At its best: now to 2036. $30.00. Feb 2024. Read more

Tasting Notes
Deeply and vibrantly coloured, the 2021 Pure Clare Shiraz shows the intensity and depth of flavour that comes from low yields and mature vines. Blackberry, black cherry, liquorice and spice dominate the nose, with more delicious dark plum and mulberry fruit on the palate. A Clare Shiraz with real poise and intensity, given structure by well-rounded and gentle tannins. Excellent on its own but perfect (of course) with red meat, cheese and game.
Winemakers Note
Fruit came from seven different vineyards from Auburn at the southern end of the Clare Valley to Armagh in the north. All the blocks are low yielding and mature. Fruit is picked solely on flavour. All batches fermented and aged separately. 15-27 days on skins. 5-17 months in oak. No racking. No fining. No filtration.
