“Intense purple-red colour and a spicy/meaty and dried-herb bouquet, very fragrant for such a big, powerful shiraz, with dried thyme, oregano and mace notes. The palate is powerful, concentrated and the intensity driving and long. There is delicious fruit sweetness and a warming heart to this lovely wine. Great to drink now and for at least 20 years more.” Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 4th February 2023 Read more

Dave Brookes - Halliday's Wine Companion

Shiraz sourced from old vineyards in the Barossa (Krondorf, Tanunda, Marananga, Ebenezer and Moppa) and the Eden Valley. Vibrant and pure at heart with deep black plum, black cherry and boysenberry fruits, plentiful exotic spice, violets, licorice and wafts of light cedar and vanillin oak. Impressive fruit depth, sandy tannin support and long, plush finish of spicy black fruits and earth.

Andrew Caillard MW - The Vintage Journal

Deep crimson. Dark cherry, elderberry, roasted chestnut aromas. Richly concentrated black cherry, elderberry fruits, fine graphite, sinewy tannins and roasted chestnut/walnut notes. Finishes mineral and long. Still quite elemental but well-balanced with beautiful fruit definition.” Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal Barossa Guide by Andrew Caillard and Angus Hughson, May 2023

Mike Bennie - Wine Business Magazine

The latest suite of releases from John Duval have been excellent, and no slouch here. A supple, flowing affair but with fine, cinching tannins lending a hand, cool acidity as an undertow, spice and herbs in spades with good concentration of fruit flavours but a freshness too. This wine seems to lift and lift. Elegant, refined and really great.” Mike Bennie, Wine Business Monthly Magazine May/June 2023

James Suckling

A big and rich wine but it shows freshness and energy underneath the juicy and rather thick fruit with plush tannins. Some chewiness, too. Needs two or three years to soften. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Powerful, showing intense aromas of espresso, mocha, fruitcake and juicy black fruits. Dense and plush, opulent and generous.
