A fresh and clean second wine from Pape Clement with redcurrant, blackberry and some walnut and stone. Medium body. Medium finish.

The 2021 Le Clémentin de Pape Clément is terrific. Silky tannins and bright, effusive aromatics grace this mid-weight second wine from the château. Hints of spice, gravel, tar, mocha, torrefaction and incense add layers of nuance, but the Clementin is a wine to appreciate for its charming, up-front personality. The 2021 is beautifully done. Tasted three times.

Winemakers Note

Few great wines can boast seven centuries of history and trace their origins back to a pope. Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest properties in Bordeaux. The vineyards were first planted in the XIIIth century by Bertrand de Goth, the youngest son of a noble family from Bordeaux. He was elected Pope in 1305, during the reign of Philippe le Bel, and took the name of Clément V. He gave his name to Château Pape Clément. The estate belonged to the Archbishop of Bordeaux until the French Revolution. Wine has been made here continuously for 7 centuries. Since 1985, this Grand Cru Classé of Graves is one of Bernard Magrez' icons.
