Winemakers Note
Nicolas Thienpont acquired three hectares in the Côtes de Castillon in 2011, near Monbadon’s castle. The vines are located on the top of the limestone plateau, with rock beneath red clay. Three years later, the vineyard grew to 6.5 hectares with new plots not far from St-Philippe-d’Aiguilhe, on a limestone plateau alternating between compact clay and very shallow soils. In 2020, a new sector in St-Genès-de-Castillon will enrich this vintage, including the 4 hectares of ‘Bois Perdu’ which will integrate the best lots of Alcée 2021. The fresh nose announces a juicy, sanguine mouth. Vineyard Traditional soil management: light ploughing and aeration of the soil with inter-row planting of cereals in the autumn. Continual program of renovation of the vines: grubbing up and replanting. Numerous manual interventions: debudding, leaf-thinning and green harvest
