The Collective Review
With an impressive 95-point rating from Ken Gargett, the Koonowla Bass Hill is a modern take on the Bordeaux blend, with a mix of Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. It's smooth and packed with flavour, showing a vibrancy of red and black fruit and an impressive tannin structure.
This is gorgeously styled and seductively fragrant on the nose with cassis, cured meat, tapenade and cedar characters. The palate is equally impressive with excellent weight beautifully framed by refined texture and loads of polished tannins, finishing wonderfully long and structured. At its best: now to 2028. The Bass Hill Vineyard provides the fruit for many of the team’s top wines, both those which are straight varietals and those which are blends. This is very much in the latter category, with the team noting that top Bordeaux is their inspiration here. Hence we have a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (36%), Malbec (22%), Petit Verdot (22%), Carménère (10%) and Cabernet Franc (10%), matured in French oak. The colour is a dark magenta and there are lifted aromas of violets, chocolate, tobacco leaves and blackcurrants. There are also hints of vanilla with the oak integration proceeding well. Juicy acidity, very good length and excellent balance, this is a superb ‘Cab and friends’. Enjoy it over the next ten to fifteen years.

Tasting Notes
Intensely aromatic, it features crushed dark berries, black currant, subtly forest wood, and herbals. The palate is delightfully succulent, a soaking of rich blackberry juices with a finely-grained mouthfeel. Varietally and style-appropriate tannins are deftly balanced within a holistic expression. The long finish is undeniably satisfying.
Winemakers Note
Cabernet Sauvignon (36%), Malbec (22%), Petit Verdot (22%), Carmenere (10%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). The growing season encouraged beautifully even ripening so that the fruit quality was supreme, demanding the finest treatment in the winery including 50% new French oak maturation.
