2018 Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz + Viognier

Medium depth purple in colour. The freshness and vibrancy of Eden Valley Shiraz abounds, coupled with the complexity and intrigue from 20% whole bunch fermentation. Cool spices, red cherry, raspberry and alluring violets flow into peppercorn and herbaceous notes. This is a medium weighted wine that is very silky and refined.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
A wet winter set the vines up for a healthy start to the season. Spring was drier than average and the vines responded quickly; growing and flowering well and setting a good number of bunches. Summer saw warm, dry days with cool nights ripening the grapes and maintaining freshness and natural acidity. The balmy Indian summer of early March helped complete the ripening of these perfectly balanced and flavoured grapes.
 

TERROIR/PROVENANCE/REGION
Shiraz: Located on the southern edge of Eden Valley township, the Bartholomaeus family vineyard Shiraz stood out for its pristine style and elegance. This old block, affectionally known as “Barty’s block”, is of unknown clones planted in 1920 on its own roots. Viognier: Located on the northern edge of the Yalumba winery, Yalumba Short’s vineyard was planted in 1998, with the 1968 Montpellier clone
