Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clement strides confidently out of the glass with classic scents of ripe blackcurrants, juicy black plums and cedar chest, plus touches of graphite, bay leaves, unsmoked cigars and espresso. The medium-bodied, elegantly styled palate (13.5% alcohol) has a lot of grace and presence for a second wine, featuring finely grained tannins and seamless freshness to support the bright, black fruit flavors, finishing on a minerally note.

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément is so expressive. Crushed rose petal, gravel, spice, tobacco and smoke all open in the glass. Medium in body, with striking aromatic presence and terrific persistence, the 2018 is just impeccable. The Clémentin is an understated wine with a ton of character. It's a gorgeous second wine from Pape Clément and Bernard Magrez.

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément is gorgeous. Gravel, smoke, tobacco, licorice, dark red cherry and menthol infuse this striking, layered second wine from Pape Clément. Aromatically expressive yet also quite dense and layered, the 2018 has plenty to recommend it, especially once the tannins settle down a bit. The blend is 50% Merlot, 49% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot.

Neal Martin - Vinous

The 2018 Clémentin de Pape Clément seems to have calmed down and is less confit than when I tasted it from barrel, featuring blackberry and blueberry aromas and light date notes in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and feels a tad hard at the moment. This is quite a strict Pessac-Léognan and it will require bottle age to just flesh out on the finish. Give it 2–3 years in bottle.
