Deep amber/tawny brown colour, the bouquet overflowing with rancio aged complexities, recalling dried fruits (chiefly fig and raisin), walnut, caramel and smoky toffee, polished timber panelling and leather. It has tremendous intensity of flavour and while it's quite sweet and viscous, the acidity helps to keep it all fresh and alive, the finish clean and more-ish. An outstanding old tawny. Quite an idiosyncratic style, one that relies not only on the benefit of extended barrel maturation, but a distinctly spiritous tone that can divide drinkers. It's clearly needed to balance the richness of fruit, but it does bring a forceful personality to the glass. Coffee, dried fruit, malt, honey cake and enduring caramel nuttiness offer layer upon layer of flavour intensity. Finishes long, warm and clean. 500ml.
