2021 Heirloom Vineyards A'Lambra Barossa Shiraz

"Dense, opaque, old-blood liquid that stains the glass as it is swirled – as with the ’20 a year ago. There are untold layers of very black fruits here, plus a dab of chocolate borrowed from McLaren Vale. I'm not in two minds about this, it's more like 20. So precocious. Tasting Notes

2021 A’LAMBRA BAROSSA VALLEY SHIRAZ Heirloom Vineyards was conceived in vintage 2000, when a young winemaking student caught the eye of a silly old wine judge. A love story ensued inspired by two vows: To preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards and to champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming. Seven long vintages of trial and error passed before Heirloom Vineyards could make a wine that was fine enough to pass on to future generations. That is this wine. This Heirloom Vineyards Shiraz was produced from our best Barossa Valley Vineyard whose clones and viticulture embody the very best in cutting edge but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, sorted bunch by bunch, naturally open fermented, basket-pressed and stored in well seasoned both American and French oak barrels from bespoke coopers

Winemakers Note

OUR WINE NOTES
Shiraz can be a simple sip or a symphony of the senses, a moment of pleasure or an eternity of contemplation. Only the poet can know, so stop thinking and surrender.

COLOUR
Vivid dark-black-purple; grainy and glass-staining.

AROMA
Dark chocolate freshly grated, liqueur chocolates, blood plums reduced, dried citrus peel and a whiff of fresh white pepper. Rosemary flowers in Spring. Enticing and alluring, morphing from aromatics that are dark and deep to those that are fresh and pert.

PALATE
A textural experience: savoury and dry, yet still with the Barossa’s richness, depth and succulence. Hence a wonderful counter-play of the brooding and the bright. There’s length and line drawn out by neat acidity, and then superfine tannins that keep the wine aloft and alive. Plenty of plum and earth flavours that slowly uncoil in your glass over a proper dinner.

OVERALL
A Spanish goat stew, with deft use of North African spices and nuts and dried fruits. If drinking this wine now don’t be afraid of spice exaggeration; if you keep it in your cellar for a handful of years then temper the spices.
