Caves St Pierre Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes 2021

The Collective Review

The Rhone Valley is one of France's most diverse and exciting wine regions, a place where you can find megastar reds for hundreds of dollars alongside some of the most unbelievable bargains.

Today we are bringing you a beast - an old vine Grenache blend, that oozes charisma and terroir.

Caves Saint Pierre has been making wine in the Rhone Valley since 1898, crafting across the entirety of the region from north to south. With multiple generations of experience and a wealth of knowledge to call on, this storied producer has got it down pat.

This Côtes Du Rhône Vieilles Vignes is a perfect example of their mastery. This is made with the same attention to detail as the rest of their top cuvees - which means rigorous site selection, use of older vines(hence Vielle Vignes) and maturation to deliver flavour-packed wine. That’s all despite the price.

We’ve got Grenache for fullness and elegance, Syrah for its complexity and aromatics and Cinsault to impart a delicateness and perfume. The average age of the vines is 40 years giving the wine incredible concentration and intensity.

This 2021 Caves St-Pierre Côtes Du Rhône Vieilles Vignes can momentarily transport us to the banks of the great river. It is a delicious, classic blend wine that shows the best of what the region has to offer.
