2021 Bethany First Village Rosé

Beautifully pale salmon pink in colour. The nose displays a balanced and strong nose of little red fruits, strawberry shortcake and spice. A full and textural palate that carries the lovely spicy red fruits on a bed of gentle acid, fine phenolics and fresh, bright aromatic florals. A long finish is languid, gently fruited and refreshing.

All grapes were direct pressed with minimal skin contact and co-fermented in stainless steel. The wine was lees stirred twice a week for a month before being racked. The Riesling portion was wild fermented on skins before being pressed to stainless steel to complete its ferment. Once dry it was blended to the final wine to add textural and aromatic complexity without colour.

The contoured Grenache vineyards planted by Geoff and Robert’s father Lawrence, are a quintessential part of the view at Bethany Wines. It’s entirely appropriate then that the Grenache for this rosé was selected, along with a parcel of Mataro to make this delicate rosé. Hand pruned and hand-picked, these old vines yield small volumes of fruit that displays great perfumed intensity and flavour. The vines sit in a mixture of well drained red brown loam and more sandy soil which is ideal to keep the natural vigour of Grenache under control. Cooling South Easterly gully breezes also ensure that natural acidity is retained which is so crucial to rosé.
