Château de Pez: The power of Saint-Estèphe combined with the style of La Comtesse . The destiny of Château de Pez, one of the oldest properties in the Saint-Estèphe appellation along with its neighbour Calon-Ségur, closely intertwines with that of the great wine families. Its viticultural history took its first turn in 1585 with the renowned Pontac family, owners of Haut-Brion, who led the estate for over two centuries. The second watershed was in 1995 when Jean-Claude Rouzaud, then at the helm of the family-owned Champagne Louis Roederer group, acquired the Château following a heartfelt connection. Beyond its history, what defines Pez is firstly its terroir, characterized by the beautiful gravelly ridge located in the northern part of the appellation, overlooking the Gironde estuary, and resting upon a clay-limestone subsoil worthy of classified growths. It is also a vision. That of the Rouzaud family, who initiated in 2005 a complete replanting program of the vineyard, favoring more Cabernet Sauvignon, which is bearing fruit today. It is they who brought Pez into modernity with a new vat room built in 2018 and equipped with the latest technologies. Furthermore, it is a shared expertise and strong synergies between Pez and the teams of Pichon Comtesse, 2nd Grand Cru Classé, led by Nicolas Glumineau. And finally, what make Pez so different is its very distinctive style, balancing power and elegance. A round, refined, and elegant wine. The power of Saint-Estèphe, the precision of La Comtesse . A unique identity carried by a true common signature.
