The Collective Review

Very pretty finesse to this wine. Medium body and refined tannins with beautiful plum and berry character and hints of chocolate and hazelnuts. Attractive length. Only four hectares of vineyards. Very drinkable now, but better after 2021. James Suckling 92 Points

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Magrez La Peyre has quite a spicy nose to begin, with notes of cinnamon stick, cloves and cumin seed over a core of baked black plums and blackcurrant pastilles plus a touch of garrigue. Medium-bodied, the palate is taut and mineral-laced with firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing fragrant. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2032

Rounded, decadent (shockingly so for the vintage), and medium to full-bodied, the 2017 Château Magrez Lapeyre is a ripe, sweetly fruited beauty that has way more fruit and texture than most. This deep purple colored Saint-Estephe has plenty of chocolatey dark fruit, sweet tannin, and no hard edges, all making it one of the more upfront, pleasure-bent releases out there.

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous

Magrez La Peyre is a new wine from Bernard Magrez. The 2017 is a very pretty, deep and unusually fleshy Saint-Estèphe for the year. Pliant and inviting the 2017 has a lot to offer. Bold, red stone fruit, scorched earth, smoke, licorice and tobacco undertones add nuance to this super-expressive, fruit-forward Saint-Estèphe. In a vintage in which so many Saint-Estèphes are lacking in depth, Magrez La Peyre is terrific. In addition to this wine, Magrez has plans for a luxury cuvée from the core two hectares of the property.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider

The debut vintage for this new wine from Bernard Magrez kicks off with oak, dark red fruits, smoke and spice. From a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is sweet, supple and forward presenting an easy to like, spicy, black cherry character.
