2016 Chateau Croix-Mouton
The Collective Review
Croix Mouton produces wines intended for pleasure, and excellent while still young. Entirely Merlot driven, they are full bodied and rich in flavour, easy to drink but with finesse and a stunning display of fresh red fruit on the palate. After the release of its first vintage, Château Croix Mouton was very quickly recognised by Bordeaux wine experts as being excellent value for money. The ‘M’ on Château Croix Mouton’s label is special. It changes shape and colour each year to reflect the personality of each vintage.
The 2016 Croix Mouton has an attractive, perfumed, floral bouquet with crushed violet petals infusing the ripe black cherry and cassis fruit. I appreciate the elegance on display here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, well judged acidity, a pleasant saline and black olive note surfacing towards the fresh finish. This Bordeaux Supérieur from Jean-Philippe Janoueix can often punch above its class and the 2016 is one of those. Read more

Fruits vifs, beau charnu, intensité savoureuse, finale légèrement acidulée. C’est un vin charmeur très expressif, qui s’affirme en milieu de bouche.

The 2016 Croix-Mouton is a gorgeous wine from Jean-Philippe Janoueix. Inky and plush in the glass, with terrific freshness, the 2016 is a highly representative wine for a year that produced dense but vibrant wines. Crème de cassis, chocolate, spice and new leather inform the juicy finish in this tasty, succulent Bordeaux Supérieur. Tasted three times.

Sweet cassis nose. A bit stringy in texture, with some green notes. 16/20
