One of just three ‘chateaux’ labels in the entire region. Cinnamon toast. Fifty shades of citrus and yuzu. Light, bright and ethereal. Elegant. Gracious, even, in its now familiar ultra-fresh style. There is a bright brilliance, intensity and energy to this that sets it apart, lovely citrus notes and lots of salinity. Perfectly judged and just right. Fabulous and every bit as good as the first release, from the exceptional 2012 vintage. 96. - Colin Hay, The Drink Business Read more

Jane Anson - New Bordeaux

The mousse is so soft and plentiful that the entire thing almost melts away in your mouth. Just an excellent Champagne that has real character, more minerality than fruit, moving towards saffran and quince. A more challenging vintage in Champagne than the 2012, but this has the charm that comes with bottle age, with a grilled almond edge, still with citrus and white flower undertones. Beautiful. Hervé Jestin winemaker. Soft 2.3/l dosage, making this Brut Zero. No need to wait longer. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

The 2013 Chateau d'Avize Blanc de Blancs Brut Zero is 100% Chardonnay with zero dosage. It sings of lemon curd, spiced apples, and honeysuckle with hints of beeswax, cashews, and chalk. The elegant, refreshing, light-bodied palate delivers delicate citrus and apple layers and a chalky finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent

Tasting Notes

Château d’Avize is one of only a few châteaux in Champagne, and the only one with a Grand Cru status. Using their biodynamic principles, the pope of Bio Dynamic and Organic Viticulture, Hervé Jestin and the Leclerc Briant team have created an extraordinary, age-worthy Champagne which demands cellaring to reach its potential. This Blanc de Blancs combines Leclerc Briant’s characterful, stimulating style; the tension of the 2013 vintage; and the power of the Avize terroir – the grandest of all the villages in the Côte des Blancs. Avize, already home to some of Champagne’s most iconic and collectable producers, has a new shining star of the champagne world. The Champagne develops a fruity, coated and juicy substance, supported by a lemony acidity. The salinity and dryness enhance a rich and suave finish.

Winemakers Note

Château d’Avize is a new cuvée of the Champagne House Leclerc Briant which is owned by an American couple, Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupré. Any mention of a “Château” is rare in Champagne, because use of the term is quite restrictive, with strict standards such as having a winery and storage unit in the place where the vines are planted. The Château d’Avize cuvée was originally created by Hervé Jestin, the pope of organic and biodynamic viticulture in Champagne, and now Leclerc Briant’s cellar master. The grapes come from a beautiful 2.5-hectare plot in the ‘château’ appellation, ideally located at the foot of the château d’Avize, in the heart of the village. Disgorgement: April 2023 Dosage: 2,3g/l (Brut Zéro) Tasting notes Nose : The freshness of a lime accompanied by notes of grilled almond, lime blossom and verbena. A few moments of patience gratify you with the scent of pistachio, warm biscuit, pear, acacia honey or elderberry. Mouth : The first contact is supple and pulpy. The Champagne develops a fruity, coated and juicy substance, supported by a lemony acidity. The salinity and dryness enhance a rich and suave finish.
