90–92. Barrel Sample. The second wine of Château Angélus, this is dominated by crisp, tight Merlot. Black currant flavors are cut with almost shocking acidity. A light wine that is not meant for long-term aging.

Light cherry-red in colour, this reflects the lighter style of the vintage that they have worked with, rather than against, showcasing their winemaking skills. Although only approaching six years old, this is limbering up to be ready to drink, offering brambly red fruits with gentle spice, kissed by the toasted cedar gloss of 15 months in barrel. It has slightly more evident acidity than the other wines in the line up due to rainy conditions during harvest, but it's impressive and appetising.

This estate’s second wine, the 2013 Carillon Angelus, is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It is light, fluid, diluted and suspect in terms of any real aging potential beyond 4-5 years.
