The Collective Review

Are you longing for a feeling of nostalgia in your Chardonnay glass that doesn’t seem to be fulfilled by most modern labels?

Here’s a pack worth your time. We’ve catered solely and exclusively to the lover of old-style Chardonnay, who looks for those tasteful layers of buttered cream, French oak, and a generous, lavish mouthfeel. Not only have we wound back the clock, but we’ve also wound up the savings, offering three stellar wines from a trio of producers who recognize that classic winemaking deserves more attention in this day and age (and shouldn’t require a bank loan in the process).

Featuring Kirkton Estate in the Hunter, the 5-star Halliday-rated Pepper Tree, and Carillon (with their bombastic Wrattonbully/Hunter blend), there’s a high chance you’ll find a new lifelong Chardonnay love in this pack. And if you don't? Well, you know where to find us!

Green apple skins, smoke and nougat aromas. On the palate the wine is full bodied with toasty notes of grilled hazelnuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, butterscotch, copper, sandalwood and cedar, with lemon curd and underripe peach complexity, opulent style but still holding onto freshness. This is a pleasing Chardy which takes advantage of some of the cooler regions growing this much loved variety. In this case, Wrattonbully and Orange. This limited release is a lovely pale lemon hue. The nose gives the impression of a wine of delicacy but one of underlying power. The aromas whirl through limes, spices, florals, a gentle hint of oak and baked lemon pie. There is good focus here and moderate length. Nice balance, this is a really attractive wine which will drink beautifully over the next 4 to 6 years. 92. - Pepper Tree Black Label Limited Release Chardonnay 2021
