Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

Always a different label each vintage, so most often hard to get the current bottle image. Anyway, they always look nice, though I think the one here is from the the 2019 release. Never mind. What’s in bottle is great. Lime leaf, flowering basil, lime and zest. It’s juicy, all lime/lemon, a grapefruity tang, chalky and quite ‘mineral’ with classic Polish Hill restraint and discreet power, aromatic and spicy, all lime and juicy crunch with a long and fine finish. Gooseberry and blackcurrant, even, and so much energy and grip. Likely the best wine from this producer I can recall. Excellent.

Mike Bennie - Halliday's Wine Companion

This has fruit in spades, with loads of fresh, almost-sweet citrus, perky green apple characters and a bit of anise and mandarin sorbet in the mix. Fresh, bold and bright with frisky acidity and excellent persistence. It's a real thirst-slaker here, simple in a way but great for its vitality and drinkability. Kudos.

Tasting Notes

A Classic style from our oldest vineyards in Polish Hill River, planted by John and Pat Wilson in the 1970’s. Vines are small and spindly, cropping at minuscule yields due to the heavy red clay soils over crumbling slate and grey gravels. Each vintage a new artwork is displayed on the front label going back to 1988. Inside, handpicked fruit provides rich citrus flavours within a steely structure, tight with lots of minerality, as you expect from this area.
