This quite delicate yet persistent chardonnay comes from a vintage that delivered more restrained fruit. This one has been wild yeast fermented so there’s a little complex mealy grapefruit richness there. But it is still understated and the tight savoury characters on the finish contribute to its distinctly linear palate shape. Like to see it in a couple more years

Majority Gingin clone, the balance Dijon clones 76, 95 and 96. Wild ferment in oak, matured for 10 months with occasional bâtonnage. The oak sits astride the fruit at this inchoate juncture, swathing it in toasty, spicy, resinous texture and flavour. The fruit is savoury, salty and pulpy, and is cloistered on the mid palate. In the mouth, the apparent acidity is extraordinarily high – stinging, in fact – however this too will likely settle down given some further time in bottle.
