Winemakers Notes
Mouton Rothschild: the creation of a unique and timeless masterpiece At Mouton Rothschild, every vintage represents a tribute from one artist to another—an eloquent expression of profound reverence shared between a renowned, talented personality and the greatest artist of all, Mother Nature. Each year, a rich collaboration unfolds between art and wine, resulting in the creation of a unique and timeless masterpiece. Each new vintage of Mouton has featured the reproduction of an original artwork specially commissioned for the estate by a contemporary artist. Beyond the exceptional intrinsic quality of its wines, Mouton Rothschild thus forges its distinctive and singular signature. From label to label, Mouton Rothschild has been graced by the artistic contributions of some of the world's most celebrated artists, including Miró, Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Tàpies, Francis Bacon, Dali, Balthus, Jeff Koons, and even Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. Château Mouton Rothschild, a Premier Cru Classé, sprawls across 84 hectares of vineyards in Pauillac. The estate enjoys exceptional natural conditions, from the quality of its deep gravel soils to its ideal exposure and sunlight. The 2023 Vintage: Climatic conditions: The mild, rainy winter enabled the vines to grow well. 2023 was one of the hottest years on record, with perfect flowering at the end of May and two hot spells at the end of August and beginning of September, marking the start of the harvest. Unstable weather conditions enabled the grapes to gain in maturity, and the last week of September offered summer sunshine to conclude the harvest. Tasting notes: The wine is a glittering, gleaming garnet red with a crimson hue. Refinement and precision are apparent from the outset, with aromas of fully ripe black berry fruit. Discreet and complementary touches of pastryshop, candy and dark chocolate offer a harmonious balance between freshness and opulence. Smooth and full-bodied, its powerful, stylish and harmoniously integrated tannins impart an attractive energy. Lead pencil and smoky, charry notes confer remarkable complexity and depth, while hints of toasted hazelnut and cocoa-bean linger long on the finish.
