Winemakers Notes
Luce, the essence of Tuscany Luce was born in the 1990s from the visionary partnership between Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, uniting passion and expertise to craft an exceptional wine. Its name, a tribute to Tuscany’s radiant light, embodies the energy and harmony of its terroir. Nestled in the heart of Montalcino, Tenuta Luce spans 249 hectares, with 88 hectares of sun-drenched vineyards. Its ideal exposure, diverse soils, and constant breeze ensure the purity and balance of the fruit. Since 2005, Lamberto Frescobaldi has carried this legacy forward with unwavering dedication. In 2016, the estate unveiled a state-of-the-art underground winery, seamlessly integrated into the landscape, further elevating its pursuit of excellence. Lux Vitis is a truly unique wine in Montalcino, distinguished by its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from a vineyard planted in 2004, with a small amount of Sangiovese added to the blend. The first vintage was produced in 2015. Lux Vitis is a rare and distinctive expression of Luce, offering a unique interpretation of this exceptional terroir. The 2022 vintage After a very cold and fairly dry winter, the growing season was characterised by a predominantly warm, dry climate. Rainfall was mainly concentrated in March, ensuring regular budding at the beginning of April. From May onwards, temperatures rose, reaching levels above historical records for the area. However, this did not adversely affect flowering, which took place without difficulty in the first week of June. The heat and lack of rain continued until mid-August, and the plants responded by limiting their vegetative development and size of the bunches. Since 15 August, some rain has brought temperatures back to normal levels at the key moment for grape ripening, namely the 'veraison', or colour change period. The weather in September remained sunny with cool nights, which helped preserve the freshness of the grapes until harvest time on 28 September. Tasting notes Lux 2022 has a deep ruby red colour. The bouquet opens with notes of ripe black fruits, which combine with elegant sensations of sweet spices, licorice root and thyme. On the palate, the beautiful balance between freshness and density is striking, the wine is well-structured, guaranteeing great ageing potential.
