Winemakers Notes
VERY LIMITED QUANTITY Alvaro Palacios, the heritage of old world viticulture Descendant of a 4 generation of wine producers, the passion of wine runs in Alvaro Palacios blood. At a time when Spain was known for its branded wines, Alvaro Palacios was driven by a greater “wine grower” vision. He wanted to make a wine that embodies its specific terroir, he wanted to Make Great Classic Wines . Alvaro Palacios history takes root in Rioja Oriental, with “Palacios Remondo”, a winery founded by its parents. In 2000, after his father's passing, he returned to Rioja, bringing with him the same values he applied in Priorat and Bierzo: respecting tradition, harmonizing nature with ancestral practices, and unveiling the terroir's unique beauty. He replaced the productive Tempranillo with the historic Garnacha and converted the 100-hectare vineyard to organic farming. In 2014, he introduced Quiñon de Valmira, a new wine from a 3-hectare plot on an exceptional calcium-rich platform overlooking the Ebro River. Quiñon de Valmira, an elixir of life An Old World vineyard gifted with a singular virtue. In the cool high reaches of the mountain, at an elevation of 616 meters, we feel a subtle northerly Atlantic breeze with fragrant, humid scents. Garnacha vines, fully adapted to the mountainous Rioja Oriental landscape, offer just a few small bunches. The berries turn into a graceful stream of vitality. The wine is an elixir of life, an intimate pleasure of nature. The 2022 vintage in Rioja Watch the video of the harvest: https://vimeo.com/778084610/c6fc13454c The 2022 vintage in Rioja Oriental faced extreme heat, minimal rainfall, and challenging conditions. Despite these difficulties, the old-vine Garnacha in the Yerga highlands showed remarkable resilience. The grapes, though small and concentrated, maintained their balance and health. Harvest began earlier than usual, with careful selection to ensure quality. The result is a vintage with profound character, showcasing the strength of traditional viticulture. These wines, born from adversity, carry a unique personality and promise to reveal their greatness with time, offering a vibrant balance of fruit and minerality.
