Chateau Pichon Baron 2023 1500ml

Pichon Baron, ode to the Cabernet-Sauvignon In 1689, Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan established Enclos Rauzan, which became the Pichon Longueville estate in 1694. In 1851, Baron Raoul de Pichon Longueville founded Pichon Baron, featuring its iconic château. Recognized as a Second Growth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate was acquired by Axa Millésimes in 1987, initiating extensive renovations. Under the leadership of Christian Seely for over 20 years, a modern tasting area was inaugurated in 2023. The 73 hectares of the Pichon Baron vineyard are spread over very high quality gravelly soil. This unique soil, low in nutrients and without excess water, is perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon. The year generally was marked by sunny weather and high temperatures, enabling optimum ripeness of the grapes, particularly the Cabernet-Sauvignons in Pauillac are spectacular. However, a cool cloudy start to August, combined with hot sunny weather both before and afterwards, resulted in grapes of excellent maturity but also remarkable freshness. At Château Pichon Baron, fine conditions in September enabled the team to harvest each parcel at the optimum moment, giving excellent fresh, balanced and profound wines at every level, but above all a Grand Vin of exceptional harmony, with generous solar ripeness and complexity combined with freshness and elegant fine tannins of great length. Tasting notes: The 2023 vintage presents rich, complex wines of great depth, with good acidity and low alcohol. The result is a vintage that combines the generosity of a sunny year with the fresh, classic balance of the great Bordeaux vintages of the past.
