Winemakers Notes
Luce, the essence of Tuscany Luce was born in the 1990s from the visionary partnership between Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, uniting passion and expertise to craft an exceptional wine. Its name, a tribute to Tuscany’s radiant light, embodies the energy and harmony of its terroir. Nestled in the heart of Montalcino, Tenuta Luce spans 249 hectares, with 88 hectares of sun-drenched vineyards. Its ideal exposure, diverse soils, and constant breeze ensure the purity and balance of the fruit. Since 2005, Lamberto Frescobaldi has carried this legacy forward with unwavering dedication. In 2016, the estate unveiled a state-of-the-art underground winery, seamlessly integrated into the landscape, further elevating its pursuit of excellence. Luce, the estate’s iconic wine, is the perfect expression of the unique synergy between Sangiovese and Merlot. To celebrate the estate’s 30th anniversary, the bottle is adorned with a special edition design in 2022. The 2023 vintage The climate in 2023 was characterized by a relatively mild and dry winter, except for a beautiful snowfall at the end of January. Spring was particularly variable, with high rainfall concentrated in May and June, requiring meticulous work in the vineyard due to the rapid development of the plants. Summer, on the other hand, was hot, with peak temperatures in July and August, interrupted by frequent thunderstorms that mitigated water stress in the vineyards, allowing for slow but gradual ripening of the grapes. The harvest began on September 1 with Merlot and continued in the second week of the month with Sangiovese. Conditions during the harvest were ideal, with sunny days and cool nights that allowed the grapes to maintain a beautiful aromatic freshness and excellent polyphenolic ripeness. Tasting notes Intense ruby red in color, Luce 2023 opens on the nose with notes of ripe red fruits, spices, and cedar. On the palate, it is rich, unctuous, and balanced in the mid-palate by a pleasant freshness. On the finish, the tannins are perfectly integrated into the structure of the wine, enhancing its refinement and elegance.
