Winemakers Notes
Luce, the essence of Tuscany Luce was born in the 1990s from the visionary partnership between Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, uniting passion and expertise to craft an exceptional wine. Its name, a tribute to Tuscany’s radiant light, embodies the energy and harmony of its terroir. Nestled in the heart of Montalcino, Tenuta Luce spans 249 hectares, with 88 hectares of sun-drenched vineyards. Its ideal exposure, diverse soils, and constant breeze ensure the purity and balance of the fruit. Since 2005, Lamberto Frescobaldi has carried this legacy forward with unwavering dedication. In 2016, the estate unveiled a state-of-the-art underground winery, seamlessly integrated into the landscape, further elevating its pursuit of excellence. Luce, the estate’s iconic wine, is the perfect expression of the unique synergy between Sangiovese and Merlot. To celebrate the estate’s 30th anniversary, the bottle is adorned with a special edition design in 2022. The 2022 vintage After a dry and rigorous winter, spring brought minimal rainfall and a sharp rise in temperatures, ensuring a uniform and well-timed flowering by late May. The summer, marked by persistent drought, saw the vines adapt naturally, supported by two timely rainfalls in late July and mid-August, which sustained vine balance and promoted a steady, even veraison. Harvest began early, on 28 August, to capture the fruit’s vibrant aromatics and freshness. An outstanding September, with warm, sunlit days and cool nights, allowed the Sangiovese to reach optimal ripeness, delivering a vintage of remarkable purity, where concentration, elegance, and balance come together seamlessly. Tasting notes Luce 2022 appears a shimmering ruby red. The nose is redolent of crisp, red berryfruit, such as recurrent and pomegranate, infused with delicate floral essences. The entry is immediately enfolding on the palate, where ripe, supple tannins perfectly complement a crisp, vibrant mid-palate, continuing through to a full-flavoured, near-endless finish.
