The whisky that put Taiwan on the world whisky map - Solist Vinho Barrique was named World's Best Single Malt at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards. It's matured in American oak barriques that previously held red and white wine, which Kavalan shaves, toasts and re-chars before filling. Each bottle comes from a single cask and is hand-bottled at cask strength, with no colouring or chill filtration. Nose: Deep and jammy - cherries, blackcurrant and plum, with vanilla, caramelised sugar and a hint of sandalwood. Palate: Big and full-bodied: stewed red fruit and tannic red wine, liquorice, sweet clove and cinnamon, with a peppery edge. Finish: Long and lingering, with dark chocolate, nuts and ripe fruit. Distillery: Kavalan, Yilan County, Taiwan. Range: Solist (single cask). Cask: Ex-wine American oak barriques. Strength: Natural cask strength (typically 50-60% ABV). 700ml.
