Although the vineyards at Forest Hill go back to 1965, this one is sourced from several sites. It really is a quite beautiful wine, capturing the vintage, which was very good for white wines, rather well. Spicy lemon zest and mineral notes on the nose are intense. Then the palate, as always, is powerfully defined and linear, with tremendous mineral, spicy intensity driving through to the finish. A classy riesling representing great current drinking, but with cellaring potential.

The fruit here is buoyant and generous but it then hones through to a long finish. It tastes of jellied lime, slate, citrus, orange blossom and red apples, the finish then drawing on a textural, chalk-like aspect. There’s a structure to this wine that’s more than just acidity; you can feel the shape of it. It’s very good.
