Charles Curtis MW - Decanter

This is consistently among my favourite bottlings from this cellar. The 2024 shows exotic notes of passion fruit and kiwi, along with hints of verbena and star anise. The texture is silky and fine, with a touch of richness but nothing heavy. It is still on lees and will not be bottled until June or July of 2026. The grapes are from 1.9ha spread throughout the appellation; fermented and aged in tank.

Delightful, with a creamy, rich texture and notes of ripe apricot and quince, edged with flinty mineral notes; the grapes are from a plot right next to Raveneau. If this lacks some of the power of traditional Montée de Tonnerre, it is guaranteed to please those looking for a wine more focused on elegance than power. This will open up in three to five years and improve for at least a decade after that.

A lovely, forward nose that melds aromas of lemon peel, nectarine and flinty minerality; the texture has an elegant balance between fresh acidity and satisfying weight and persistence. The grapes are from several parcels totalling 0.9ha in Montmains and its sub-appellations; they are fermented and matured exclusively in stainless steel tanks to produce this wine, which should show well on release but will also age for up to five years.

Opens with aromas of ripe mirabelle plum, peach and apricot. While it does not have the same mineral character as some of the wines in this cellar, the lush feel on the palate and silky sweetness of the fruit are enough to recommend it. The grapes are from 0.6ha on a curving slope that concentrates the sunlight; in 2024 the site produced a respectable 20 hl/ha and a delicious wine.

A seductively exotic nose with hints of gooseberry, lime and passion fruit. There is a silky texture and a very 'left bank' expression of finesse and elegance. It lacks the power of warmer years such as 2023 or 2022 but Chablis lovers are amply compensated by its delicacy. The grapes are from four parcels totalling 1.78ha in satellites that make up Vaillons premier cru: one each in Epinottes and Roncières, and two in Sécher; they are fermented exclusively in tank.

Vinified entirely in tank, the 2024 Chablis exhibits aromas of lemon peel, spring flowers and youthful reduction, followed by a medium- to full-bodied, racy palate framed by bright acids and concluding with a saline finish, though it lacks the concentration achieved in more favorable vintages. Points: 87-89
