Sourced from a block of 1990s-planted pinot noir in the Coal River Valley. Woah! I'm loving those struck-flint reduction tones in this year's release. I realise they can be polarising, but they make me go all gooey-eyed, especially like here, when they are matched to a core of pure red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits. There's hints of souk-like spice, leaf litter, pomegranate, amaro, orange blossom, roast game, crushed stone and an expression of citrus oil. Finely structured and a wicked saline seam of acidity, with boundless energy and verve at the back end.
