VERY LIMITED QUANTITY Alvaro Palacios, the heritage of old world viticulture Descendant of a 4 generation of wine producers, the passion of wine runs in Alvaro Palacios blood. At a time when Spain was known for its branded wines, Alvaro Palacios was driven by a greater “wine grower” vision. He wanted to make a wine that embodies its specific terroir, he wanted to Make Great Classic Wines . 10 years after succeeding in Priorat, Alvaro Palacios Palacios, alongside his nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios, ventured to Corullón in Bierzo. They were captivated by the region's mystic legacy, diverse soils, and ancient winegrowing culture. In Bierzo, they cultivate Mencía on steep, biodynamic vineyards ranging from 600 to 900 meters in altitude. These noble old vines, aged between 60 and 100 years, produce fragrant, delicate wines with remarkable energy, reflecting the deep heritage of the land. Moncerbal, a juicy and cristalline wine Southwest-facing vineyards at 650 to 740 metres, exposed to the orange-coloured sunset light. An open, limpid and expressive spot with slate, quartz and marble soils. The area’s transparency flows like fruit water in a crystalline wine. It resembles the fresh air that the age-old vines breathe. A special paraje blessed with a divine gift. The 2022 vintage in Corullón: The 2022 vintage in Corullón, Bierzo, was marked by extreme weather conditions, with a dry winter and unprecedented heatwaves in the summer. Despite the challenges, the old Mencía vines showed resilience, producing balanced and complex wines with delicate tannins and moderate acidity. The vineyard management required constant adaptation, with minimal interventions to preserve the vines. The result is a vintage that, despite the harsh conditions, delivers wines of surprising finesse, characterized by vibrant fruit, complexity, and a harmonious balance that reflects the enduring wisdom of the old vines.
