Winemakers Notes
Alvaro Palacios, the heritage of old world viticulture Descendant of a 4 generation of wine producers, the passion of wine runs in Alvaro Palacios blood. At a time when Spain was known for its branded wines, Alvaro Palacios was driven by a greater “wine grower” vision. He wanted to make a wine that embodies its specific terroir, he wanted to Make Great Classic Wines. His search led him to Priorat, in Catalonia, where the Garnacha is the historical queen variety, and it was a revelation to him. This place had everything he sought : a unique place with a legendary wine past, a mystic atmosphere, a century -old vineyards and preserved ancestral winegrowing traditions. Today, his organically farmed vineyard is planted on cool slate soils. Located on steep slopes, it is a constellation of tiny and very demanding plots of very old vines. Guided by the wisdom of the past and a deep respect for nature, he has dedicated himself to creating one of Spain's most iconic wines. La Baixada, the dream of sensuality La Baixada vineyard holds mystery within its reach. The coming years will confirm the relevance of a legend that even now begins to emerge in this spot of hot soils, cold air and vivid memories. The maturity of the warm mineral soils, the sensuality of its plenitude, the structured and attractive tannins with captivating qualities. Here, Garnacha is both robust and subtle, juicy and energetic. Full, fresh, fragrant and enticingly charming, it demands the privilege of being served separately. The 2023 vintage In the hot, dry weather that we are experiencing, the grapes remain small, concentrated inside, like a cool, country house stuck to the rock and protected from the heat by thick walls and a basin of crystalline water. They are both delicate and powerful at the same time. They have to be so to resist and triumph against the arduous trials of the climate. From these grapes are born wines that represent the purest essence of the steep vineyards on sun-baked slopes. Paradoxical, prodigious are adjectives that fall short of explaining the greatness, the pure aroma, the sense of emotion. Swollen with flavour and honest aromas, faithful to their geology, they flood us with inspiration, astonishing us with their jovial and inviolate fragrances of great delicacy. Their moving texture contains balance and harmony, and more than ever, abounds with the great energy of the sun. Their marvellous taste clutches hold of the flavour of the earth and trembles with magic, almost as if we were witnessing a miracle.
