Winemakers Notes
Alvaro Palacios, the heritage of old world viticulture Descendant of a 4 generation of wine producers, the passion of wine runs in Alvaro Palacios blood. At a time when Spain was known for its branded wines, Alvaro Palacios was driven by a greater “wine grower” vision. He wanted to make a wine that embodies its specific terroir, he wanted to Make Great Classic Wines . Convinced that in the Old World, one must follow ancestral traditions, Alvaro Palacios sought a place with a rich wine history, mystical atmosphere, and century-old vineyards. His search led him to Priorat in Catalonia, where Garnacha reigns as the historic queen variety. Inspired by this revelation, Palacios now cultivates his organically farmed vineyard on cool slate soils across steep, challenging slopes of ancient vines. Guided by the wisdom of the past and a deep respect for nature, he has dedicated himself to creating one of Spain's most iconic wines. Finca Dofí, two villages areas, one single vineyard A 16-hectare single vineyard is home to two historical village areas (small areas) in the village of Gratallops: La Baixada and Coll de Falset. Coster vines, planted on steep slopes two decades ago, preserve their traditional, arduous and genuine essence. A complex, vibrant and enigmatic sensuality. Like the landscape, facing the mountainous north and the east that anticipates the humidity from the sea. Finca Dofí is a sensual, fleshy wine, like the area’s slate, rich in clay and iron. The 2023 vintage In the hot, dry weather that we are experiencing, the grapes remain small, concentrated inside, like a cool, country house stuck to the rock and protected from the heat by thick walls and a basin of crystalline water. They are both delicate and powerful at the same time. They have to be so to resist and triumph against the arduous trials of the climate. From these grapes are born wines that represent the purest essence of the steep vineyards on sun-baked slopes. Paradoxical, prodigious are adjectives that fall short of explaining the greatness, the pure aroma, the sense of emotion. Swollen with flavour and honest aromas, faithful to their geology, they flood us with inspiration, astonishing us with their jovial and inviolate fragrances of great delicacy. Their moving texture contains balance and harmony, and more than ever, abounds with the great energy of the sun. Their marvellous taste clutches hold of the flavour of the earth and trembles with magic, almost as if we were witnessing a miracle.
