Winemakers Notes
VERY LIMITED QUANTITY Alvaro Palacios, the heritage of old world viticulture Descendant of a 4 generation of wine producers, the passion of wine runs in Alvaro Palacios blood. At a time when Spain was known for its branded wines, Alvaro Palacios was driven by a greater “wine grower” vision. He wanted to make a wine that embodies its specific terroir, he wanted to Make Great Classic Wines. His search led him to Priorat, in Catalonia, where the Garnacha is the historical queen variety, and it was a revelation to him. This place had everything he sought : a unique place with a legendary wine past, a mystic atmosphere, a century -old vineyards and preserved ancestral winegrowing traditions. Today, his organically farmed vineyard is planted on cool slate soils. Located on steep slopes, it is a constellation of tiny and very demanding plots of very old vines. Guided by the wisdom of the past and a deep respect for nature, he has dedicated himself to creating one of Spain's most iconic wines. Finca Dofí, two villages areas, one single vineyard A 16-hectare single vineyard is home to two historical village areas (small areas) in the village of Gratallops: La Baixada and Coll de Falset. Coster vines, planted on steep slopes two decades ago, preserve their traditional, arduous and genuine essence. A complex, vibrant and enigmatic sensuality. Like the landscape, facing the mountainous north and the east that anticipates the humidity from the sea. Finca Dofí is a sensual, fleshy wine, like the area’s slate, rich in clay and iron. The 2022 vintage in Gratallops, Priorat: The year of the three heat waves The 2022 vintage was marked by intense heat and a prolonged drought in Priorat, leading to an early harvest. Despite challenging conditions, the vines produced a higher-than-expected yield, with fruit showing remarkable freshness, complexity, and elegance. The extreme weather led to a unique balance between intense flavors and vibrant acidity, with thick grape skins providing natural protection. The wines from this vintage are noted for their deep, earthy character, with a silky harmony and a complexity that reflects the resilience and adaptation of the vines.
