Deep colour to the rim. Youthful, berry-fruit notes dominate the nose at present with a touch of Syrah spice. The palate is round and gourmand with a lovely expression of fruit, the plentiful tannins behind polished and refined, the texture smooth. There's also the hallmark freshness of Limoux and impressive length. This is definitely a step-up from previous vintages, probably the best yet. Also contains 5% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend.

Clive Pursehouse - Decanter

The Domaine de Baron'arques demonstrates that Limoux, the region that gave birth to sparkling wine makes a fine Merlot-based wine as well. A velvety wine of plush red and blue, berry fruit aromas accented by clove and baking spice. The palate is lush fruit, with tight, finely integrated tannin that shows well now, but offers hints at its ageability.

Full-bodied and refined, this red displays flavors of currant, graphite, forest floor and cedar that are seamless and supported by polished tannins. Accents of blackberry, tea, spice and bay leaf give depth through the finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.

There's a riper character than previous vintages with pear and citrus the dominant aromas. Generous fruit sweeps across the palate balanced by refreshing acidity. The oak is barely discernible and there's a minerally clean finish and reasonable length. Lacks some complexity but an appetising and well-made wine.
