A combination of earthy and mushroomy (or even truffle-like) aromas are nestled amongst notes of cedar, wild raspberries, satsuma plums, and white pepper. Still juvenile, the wine is firm and tightly coiled on the palate. There is a real juiciness to the primary fruit elements, which are evocative of plum, rhubarb, and wild mulberries. There is also a savoury edge to the wine, with the tannin and acid offering a profound tactile influence, while also lending drive and length to the finish. The tannins are varietally cabernet yet fine and controlled to enhance the palate.

Erin Larkin - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2023 Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon comprises 13% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot, alongside the mainstay Cabernet Sauvignon. Both aromatically and on the palate, the wine is elegant and fine, with chalky tannins and good length through the finish. There are notes of sage, saltbush, nori, sandalwood, paprika and raspberry. This is an impressive release from a brilliant year. Bravo. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

You’re doing pretty well when you can get a cabernet sauvignon from this great vintage in Margaret River for less than $40. The slightly cooler season with its longer ripening time has enabled the fruit to build impressively balanced flavours with refined body. Carries the typical blackcurrant and bay leaf notes with a rich core of dark chocolate. The fine chalky tannins and oak add structure to focus and extend the palate.

Bay leaf, gravel dust and black fruit. It’s sticky and scrumptious. A very likeable and comforting Margaret River Cabernet. Black-skinned-cherries, blackberries, black skinned plums. Black, black, black. Ow, and shaved timber. A wine in alignment. It gives value and hits the spot. The support structure is well-built and decorated with pristine fruit. Everything’s definitely in order here. Drink whilst listening to Jimi Hendrix after 7pm.

No question this is varietal as much as regional. Cassis, mulberries, black olives, nori and wafts of raspberry leaf and eucalyptus. Medium-weighted and still very much in a primary phase with all that bolshie if bright fruit, grainy if sinewy tannins and plenty of acidity in tow. It’s a good wine and, in time, will garner more complexity.

Sourced from estate fruit planted in 1983 and a neighbouring vineyard, also 40 years old. Blue and red fruit, violet perfume, bay leaf and baking spice, a slight cut red chilli thing here too. It’s medium to full-bodies, has some hazelnut chocolate richness in the mix, balanced acidity, some ripeness, though with a cinch of herb and red capsicum, tannin is firm with a sort of beer nut grip, and the finish is pretty good too. It’s maybe a little bit edgy, though leans into the house style in that way.

Angus Hughson - Vinous
The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Wilyabrup offers plush aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant, with firm cedary oak. Dark berry flavors are accented by punchy acidity and edgy tannins that require some time to settle.
Angus Hughson - Vinous
The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon is perfumed with layers of violets, musk and spice underscored by a powerful backdrop of sweet cassis. Sinewy tannins and angular acidity are heavy set and currently overshadow understated flavors. This may come good in time.
Winemakers Notes
A family-owned winery, Lenton Brae was established in 1982. Recent renovations have rejuvenated the site, showcasing the splendour of this region. Large bay windows overlook our lake, adorned with ducks and native birds. Outdoor shaded tables are perfect in the summer months and cosy fireplaces in winter. Situated just north of Margaret River, Lenton Brae is nestled into the hills of the premium Wilyabrup region. Here, loamy gravel soils provide excellent constitution and drainage. A stone’s throw (around 3.5kms) from the Indian Ocean, our vines benefit from a mild and consistent Mediterranean climate.
