Tasting Notes

Deep red with vibrant purple hues. Rich aromas of chocolate, spice and raspberry. Some confectionery notes also with sweet vanilla bean ice cream characters on the aroma. A layered arome, with black forest cake and cinnamon spice. The oak is subtle but adds a complexing sweet note to the wine. The palate is dense and smooth, showing red fruit flavours, rounded silky tannins and well balanced acidity on the finish. Shiraz - Egg white fined

Product Highlights

It all started with a dream.   To craft a pair of Barossa wines, a Shiraz and a regal Cabernet inspired by the legendary Grant Burge duo, Filsell & Corryton Park. Two benchmarks of the region, two absolute pound-for-pound red wine champions that have captured the collective attention of Australian wine drinkers for years.

We knew straight away. If we wanted to unlock the secret to perfectly ripe Barossa fruit, with that intensity and purity of quality vineyards, there could only be one man for the job…

Grant Burge has been synonymous with quality Barossa wines for many years, and his ability to source the best fruit from the region ensures the highest quality. The Idle Hill Growers range is a nod to Burge and his work. His name is now firmly on the label in recognition of his great job sourcing fruit for these superb wines. These wines, exclusive to TWC customers, are a testament to our commitment to bringing you the best.

Grant and the winemaking team at Burge Family sourced fruit from across the Barossa Valley floor and the High Eden to help blend together this enigmatic Shiraz. Immediately you are met with that tell-tale sign of old-vine fruit: complexity of flavour and remarkable tannins the calling card, sandwiched between 18 months of fine French oak. There's raspberry and blue fruits, cassis and mocha, vanilla and spice.

The 2022 Idle Hill Growers Series is everything you want from a Barossa Shiraz: ripe fruit, excellent oak integration, and a perfect palate weight that shows concentration and balanced acidity. Sample it now with a tomahawk steak and bearnais, or set some aside for at least a decade in the cellar.

Reviews

Idle Hill Growers -a bit lack lustre

"Id have to say I was a little disappointed in the 2022 Idle Hill Growers Shiraz after the hyped marketing. It was promoted as a sub-premium shiraz at a bargain price. I conclude that there is nothing wrong with this wine, there's just nothing that particularly noteworthy about it. It's a balanced, fruit driven shiraz, with pleasant mouthfeel but with only a moderate length on the palate. A good quaffer."

IDLE HILL, the gentle autumn drop

"This delicious wine is a "go to" for us. Perfectly paired with a sunset, a platter, a picnic or a slow cooked meal on a slow autumn Sunday. We love it."
