Winemakers Note

Château Rayne Vigneau - Limited Quantities - Château Rayne Vigneau has stood majestically on a superb hillside overlooking the Sauternes region since its creation in the early 17th century. The term "Vigneau de Bommes" englobe la fois le vignoble, le château, la seigneurie, ainsi que la famille de Vigneau, qui en fut les premiers propriétaires. Gabriel de Vigneau appears in the archives as early as 1635. His son, Étienne, married Jeanne Sauvage, the daughter of the Lord of Yquem, and took over management of the estate in 1681. In 1834, Madame de Rayne, whose birth name was Catherine de Pontac, acquired the Vigneau estate. Château de Rayne Vigneau was classified 1er Grand Cru de Blanc in 1855. This classification recognises an exceptional terroir. For a very long time, this multi-faceted, powerful terroir has enabled white wines with fabulous potential to be produced. This was the case in 1867, when Château de Rayne Vigneau was voted the best sweet white wine in the world. Successive owners have invested heavily in improving the quality of the wines, which has elevated the château to the status of a safe bet in the appellation. With each vintage, Rayne Vigneau embodies a style characterised by intensity, freshness and length. Since its acquisition by CA Grands Crus in 2004, a comprehensive vineyard optimisation plan has been implemented under the direction of Bernard Monteau, the estate's Technical Director, with the invaluable advice of oenologist Denis Dubourdieu. CA GRANDS CRUS, a company owned by the Crédit Agricole Group, has owned four renowned wine estates in the Bordeaux region since 2004, including Château de Rayne Vigneau, classified 1er Grand Cru Sauternes, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, classified 5th Grand Cru Pauillac, Château Meyney in Saint-Estèphe, and Château Blaignan, a Cru Bourgeois in the Médoc. Aware of this extraordinary potential, Vincent Labergère and his teams have been working for 10 years to produce a great dry white wine that expresses the grandeur of this terroir. Vintage after vintage, adjusting the origin of the grapes, the harvest dates, the vinification process and the ageing, they have decided for the first time to market the 2022 vintage. The 2022 Vintage Origin: The Château de Rayne Vigneau parcel has a very special terroir, consisting of blue clay and active limestone. This remarkable soil composition creates an unusual cradle for the vines. Tasting Notes Château Rayne Vigneau Grand Vin Blanc Sec is a wine of luminance. Generous and vibrant, its bouquet weaves together notes of peach, grapefruit, and flint. The palate is astonishingly tense, remarkably dynamic, and possesses remarkable length. The wine's delicate power and harmonious complexity evoke a singular emotional experience.
