Cherry stones, currants, tobacco and lemon peel on the nose. Sleek and focused, elegant, with fine-grained tannins, a medium body and a creamy, linear finish. Try from 2024.

Pretty, wild floral notes on the nose alongside fresh raspberry. Supple and agile, this has a lovely ease to it - not showy or too loud, but gentle and calm, delivering chalky, creamy red fruits with soft, fine, graphite-edged tannins. Pleasing acidity gives a persistent if not totally lively lift throughout, and this has an unfussy charm with lovely crushed stone salinity on the finish. No drop in the mid-palate, but lightly flavoured with gentle persistency. Easy to enjoy. Tasted twice.

There is a large gap between the quality of the 2021 Siran and the Deuxième Vin because of the Merlot this year. Picked between September 23 and October 9, and matured in 35% new oak, the Siran has a delicate, perfumed bouquet of wild strawberry, raspberry and light cassis scents. The palate is malleable, with fleshy red fruit that segues into darker fruit laced with graphite. Nicely balanced, albeit with less substance than the 2019 or 2020 (as you would expect), this Siran should drink well over the next 12–15 years. (13.0% alcohol) Points: 90-92

The 2021 Siran has an open bouquet with raspberry and blackberry fruit, iodine and light iris flower scents, not the most complex in Margaux but the oak is nicely integrated. It opens nicely with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, more black fruit here originating from the 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, touches of graphite and cedar emerging toward the finish. It will drink sooner than other vintages, but is still worth seeking out given prices.
A layered and fine-tannined red with currants and light graphite and stone undertones, Medium body. Fresh, linear finish. Grows on the palate.

Defined ruby core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Fresh red wild berries and cherries on the nose with a delicate herbal savouriness. The medium body supports a bold red cherry dominated palate, integrated tannins and a salty, versatile and fresh finish.

The 2021 Siran is pleasant, but also a bit light, with not a ton of depth or complexity. Red fruit, cedar, tobacco and floral notes are attractive, but I would like to see a bit more stuffing. Let's see how this comes together. Points: 88-90
