Winemakers Note
One of Denis Durantou’s estates. Denis Durantou passed away in 2020 and was one of the greatest winemakers of the right bank. His daughters are proudly taking over the estate and carrying on this heritage. Château Montlandrie is a 12 hectare vineyard established at the end of the 19th century by an italian family. Denis Durantou, passionate about the Right Bank where he owns many estates - L'Eglise Clinet, La Chenade, Saintayme in particular - bought Montlandrie in 2009. It was, he explained, the only terroir where he really wanted to vinify grapes in Bordeaux after gravels and Pomerol clays. Because we are there in the clay-limestone soils that dominate the Dordogne, in the Castillon-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation, with a majority of Merlot and a planting density of six thousand feet per hectare for rich grapes and complex. Here, Denis Durantou, and now his daughters, have the same requirement and precision as in their other domains, giving a unique signature to their wines.
