Neal Martin - Vinous

The 2021 Grand Mayne has a pure, sensual bouquet of perfumed red and blue fruit, quite floral in style. The oak is nicely integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and fine tannins, and quite mineral-driven, leading to a poised, persistent finish. This is another excellent wine from Jean-Antoine and Damien Nony. Points: 92-94

Neal Martin - Vinous

The 2021 Grand Mayne has a gorgeous bouquet with floral scents—violets and peony. Quite lush but delineated black plummy fruit and hints of cedar emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, silky smooth in texture with a silver bead of acidity lending tension on the finish. This was promising in barrel and delivers in bottle.

Georgina Hindle - Decanter

Dark chocolate, liquorice and blackcurrants on the nose, smells aromatic and appealing with perfumed floral touches too. Smooth and round, it has a lovely delicacy to it, the bright strawberry and raspberry fruit given a savoury and mineral feel from crushed stones, pencil lead and creamy chalk. Lightly framed in terms of texture, the tannins fine and velvety, just gripping the tongue with a crushed stone element with a pulse of energy running through from start to finish. This is playful, easy to enjoy yet also has a serous dark liquorice tone with excellent precision of fruit. Hard not to like with the terroir on show. A very good example this year! I love it!!

The 2021 Grand Mayne is a standout. It offers a beguiling mix of deep, plush fruit and more nervy tension that is such a signature of the year. Red berry fruit, chalk, blood orange, mocha, mint and white pepper all race across the palate. Grand Mayne was brilliant in two tastings. I hope I am not underrating it. Points: 91-93

Deep garnet fading to purple on the narrow rim. Delicate cranberry and cassis alongside notes of fresh orange zest. Medium-bodied, red wild berries and cherries, subtle tannins, a touch of nougat on the finish, lemon-salty aftertaste.

The 2021 Grand Mayne offers up rich aromas of crème de cassis, fruitcake and toasty new oak, followed by a medium-bodied palate with an ample attack that segues into a mid-palate built around powdery tannins and tangy acids that carry through to the somewhat metallic finish.
