Owned by the Clément Fayat family, this eclectic château was designed by Louis Garros in 1881 and is well worth a view. The estate has produced a richly textured wine. Its black-currant and cocoa flavors are reflected in the layers of tannin and acidity. It will age well. Drink from 2027.

The 2021 Clément-Pichon has a clean, fresh bouquet of blackberry, wild hedgerow and very light mint aromas. The palate is balanced with slightly gritty tannins, some weight on the midpalate, sapid black fruit and an old-school, tobacco-tinged finish. This should drink well for 12–15 years. A nice surprise. Points: 90-92

The 2021 Clément-Pichon has a slightly riper nose than some of its peers: red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, orange zest and hints of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins that frame the tart red fruit. This is a brisk and breezy Haut-Médoc, but it is harmonious and demonstrates sufficient vigor on the finish. Drink it over the next decade.

Georgina Hindle - Decanter

Mint, liquorice and black cherry flavours combine on the palate giving a dark, slightly savoury tone to this while the graphite elements, in terms of flavour and texture, settle on the tongue. Overall, quite a lifted palate - really aerial in its presentation - the fruit flavours glide from start to finish rather than settling anywhere giving a light and gentle frame. Well balanced overall.
