Winemakers Notes
Sought-after by wine lovers all over the world, Château La Mission Haut-Brion white wine is extremely rare (500 to 600 cases). Previously known as Château Laville Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion is a wine for the initiated. It is unique: when young, it has the characteristics of a great Gewurztraminer. Over time, it takes on the amber colour of a great Sauternes wine. This dry white wine expresses all the attributes of a Graves sweet wine, specific to the Sémillon grown on these famous terroirs.
About Château Laville Haut-Brion
Beginning with the 2009 vintage, the familiar Château Laville Haut-Brion label will no longer be used, to be replaced by one bearing the name Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, accentuated in gold as Frédéric Woltner had done when creating its first label in 1927
Tasting
The colour is beautiful, a pale yellow. The first nose is aromatic and powerful, with really lovely scents of white peach and apricot flesh revealed when swirling the wine. On the palate, the wine gives a rich first taste, very ample.
Then development on the palate is generous, rich in taste and superb fruity flavours. The finish on a slightly lemony hint gives a marvellous, slight touch of salinity. Sauvignon, in majority in the blend (55%) of this Château La Mission Haut-Brion white, brings superb acidity, given the context of the summer of 2020, without overriding the Sémillon. The balance between body, acidity and aromatics is achieved particularly well.
