Winemakers Notes
Château Malescot St-Exupéry owes its name to two former owners: Simon Malescot, a royal councillor to the Bordeaux parliament, who acquired the estate in 1697, and Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, who owned it from 1827 to 1853. Paul Zuger and his son, Roger, purchased the château, located in the middle of the town of Margaux, in June 1955. Since 1994, Jean-Luc Zuger, son of Roger Zuger, has managed the property. Today, after more than sixty years of unstinting efforts, Malescot St-Exupéry’s coat of arms has never been truer: Semper Ad Altum (“Ever Higher”). Malescot due to its small size, 28 hectares, is today one of the smallest Grands Crus Classés 1855, close to its original terroir of 1697. Key Points - Family owned and managed, the owner still lives in the Château - 70%, minimum of Grand Vin each year - A small production, only 28 hectares in Margaux - A vinification with a single outside product, sulfur, it is a non-yeasted, unfined, unfiltered wine with only one racking - A high quality wine and always very well rated Area 28 hectares Vineyard Management Sustainable agriculture using biocontrols Certification HVE3 Yield 31 hl/ha Ageing 12 to 14 months in barrels Bâtonnage sur lies fines of each barrel multiple times a week 70% of new barrels Tasting note Dark and glossy this wine has a garnet colour. It doesn't lack depth and structure, with a powerful nose and a hint of blackcurrants. The wood fades behind the structure of silky tannins, full of ripe red fruits. To top it off the finish is beautiful, tender and precise with hints of spices which add to the complexity of this 2020 Malescot.
